Ex-WisdomTree bosses hire duo for new ETF platform

Ex-WisdomTree bosses hire duo for new ETF platform

Former WisdomTree Europe co-chief executives Hector McNeil and Nik Bienkowski have made two senior hires as their fledging white label ETF platform HANetf continues to grow.

Jason Griffin joins the firm from ETF provider Source as director for capital markets and business development, while Simon Mott joins as head of marketing from index provider FTSE Russell.

It comes after McNeil (pictured) and Bienkowski hired Samir Patel as general counsel and Ignatius Faissal as director of product management in December.

Patel joined the firm from AllianceBernstein while Faissal worked with McNeil and Bienkowski at WisdomTree following the merger with the duo’s second venture Boost ETP.

Commenting on the latest appointments, McNeil said: ‘The market reaction to the launch of HANetf has been beyond our expectations and the pipeline of potential clients is looking very healthy.

‘Our main focus at this point is building the company’s systems, processes and most importantly the team.

‘The hires of Jason and Simon bring invaluable ETF experience to the company, nearing 100 years across the team.’

Wealth Manager first revealed in August that McNeil and Bienkowski were planning to launch a white label ETF platform.

The platform will help companies that lack the scale or expertise to launch and develop ETFs in Europe, supplying back office and support functions normally associated with major businesses.

Speaking in August, McNeil believed the firm had a ‘unique offering in Europe’ and said it aims to ‘help any companies who may have thought the road to market too costly, time consuming or management intensive to issue ETFs under their own efforts.’

He said: ‘There is a powerful trend towards ETFs in Europe and asset managers will need to be able to issue passive, smart beta and ultimately active investment strategies in a timely and efficient manner to take advantage of this demand.’
