Former M&G star manager joins St Albans wealth firm

Former M&G star manager joins St Albans wealth firm

Mike Felton, former manager of the M&G UK Select fund, has joined St Albans-based IFA Lumin Wealth.

Felton spent 11 years with M&G Investments and became one of the UK's most respected fund managers. He was rated by Citywire for 63 of the 68 months he had been eligible, a 93% coverage rate, until his career was disrupted by a battle with leukaemia in 2008. He eventually left M&G Investments in October 2016.

He joined Lumin Wealth in April this year, and is working three mornings a week as chief investment officer of the rapidly growing IFA firm.

Felton told Wealth Manager sister title New Model Adviser®: 'I chose Lumin because the role sounded fantastically interesting and involved doing the stuff I have always enjoyed, looking at the macro and strategic environment in global markets.

'It is a great little business and is growing very rapidly, having grown assets under management by around 90% every year for the last five years. Performance has been good, the service we provide the clients is excellent, due to a really high quality team of advisers, and the story is really about keeping it simple, doing what it says on the tin.'

Lumin has also recently been bolstered by the addition of Neville Pereira as financial planning director.

Pereira previously spent over a decade as financial services director and partner at London-based .

He said: ‘I looked at a number of different firms but what stood out about Lumin was the management and personnel. They are chartered planners and discretionary managers, they have an in-house actuary, so there are a lot of additional skill sets that few IFA firms have at their disposal.

‘Someone like Mike Felton coming on board as well gives us many strings to our bow in terms of our offering. There are strong back office teams in place to support consultants and the firm has achieved expeditious growth, going from £100 million to around £250 million in assets under management very quickly.’
