French fund giant hires SLI veteran to open London shop

French fund giant Comgest has hired an Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) veteran to spearhead its push into London.

Iain MacPherson, who joined what was then Standard Life Investments back in 2009, becomes the Paris-based firm's first UK employee in its new office in Mayfair.

He joins the firm's investor relations team, working alongside Comgest country head Jane Russell.

In his new capacity, MacPherson (pictured) will be tasked with developing Comgest's presence across the UK wholesale market.

He will look to win business from the contacts he built up during his nine years with ASI, where more recently he served as an investment director responsible for London intermediary sales.

Commenting on the new role, MacPherson said: 'I’m very excited to join Comgest, an outstanding partnership with a solid long-term performance track record across its fund range.

'The firm has a rare level of consistency in its style, process and people that I believe the UK wholesale market will particularly value.'

Comgest, which is known for its long-term quality-growth investment style, has partnered with a number of UK pension funds, family offices and wealth managers, across a variety of strategies.

These include Citywire AA-rated David Raper's emerging markets range and Franz Weis' European franchise.

The UK market counts for 7% of its assets under management. The firm has added a number of sterling share classes to its Dublin Comgest Growth umbrella to make the funds more accessible in the UK.

Comgest has also become a member of the UK Investment Association and is in the process of registering its funds on major UK platforms, having already secured deals with AJ Bell, Pershing, Allfunds, Raymond James and James Hay.

Commenting on the push into the UK, Comgest CEO Arnaud Cosserat said: 'Comgest has always taken a long-term view. Establishing a local presence in the UK market, despite Brexit, reflects our enduring commitment to servicing our British investors. Comgest is delighted to welcome Iain on board.

'His depth of experience within the UK wholesale market is a great addition to the team and his partnership approach to relationships with investors reflects very much the values of our firm.'
