Henderson Global Investors has bolstered its multi-asset offering with the hire of AAA-rated Stephen Payne from Santander Asset Management.
‘[Stephen] brings with him deep analytical experience, along with an excellent understanding of macroeconomic issues and fixed interest markets,’ said Burvill.
‘His ability to deliver attractive returns will be invaluable as we focus on growing our assets under management in this key area of the business for Henderson.’
An industry stalwart of 21 years, Payne had been at Santander since 2007, running the firm’s Dividend Income Portfolio, Enhanced Income Portfolio and Equity Income mandates.
Prior to that, he had spent a brief hiatus as an investment analyst with Blue Oar Securities, following UK equity income fund management stints at Abbey Life, Hill Samuel, Framlington and Teachers.
The news comes not long after Henderson lost multi-asset heavyweight Bill McQuaker to Fidelity International, though the firm’s first-quarter results – published a week later – painted a more positive picture.
Over the 12 months to the end of March, Henderson Cautious Managed lost 2.3% versus the Balanced GBP sector average decline of 2.6%. However, over five years it has outperformed its peers to return 32.9% versus the 23.2% sector average.
