Hermes creates global head of stewardship role

Hermes creates global head of stewardship role

Hermes Investment Management has appointed Colin Melvin to the newly created the role of global head of stewardship.

Melvin (pictured) has been promoted from the Hermes Equity Ownership Services (Hermes EOS) business where he has been chief executive since 2002.

Hermes EOS will now be led by Hans Hirt and Emma Hunt who have been named co-heads.

Reporting to Hermes chief executive Saker Nusseibeh, Melvin's new role will oversee Hermes' strategic stewardship, responsibility and client engagement programmes.

He will advise the board and senior management on the development of Hermes' stewardship capabilities.

Prior to Hermes EOS, Melvin's career has included spells at the UN and Standard Life.

'For more than 30 years we have led the development of stewardship in the investment industry,' said Nusseibeh.

'Colin Melvin has played a key role in much of this work, both directly and indirectly. His new role reflects our core objective of helping to create a more sustainable investment industry.'

Standard Life Investments similarly introduced a head of stewardship role earlier this month, with Euan Stirling taking up the position.
