Investec Asset Management has appointed Matt Evans as portfolio manager of its £330 million UK Smaller Companies fund.
Brazier left Columbia Threadneedle for Investec in November 2014 after a spelling heading its UK equity division.
The Threadneedle UK Smaller Companies fund has returned 63.9% over the past three years compared to the peer group average of 40.7%.
Meanwhile the UK Mid 250 fund has returned 38.5% over three years in comparison to the sector average of 39.3%.
Evans was also sole manager of the Threadneedle Ethical UK Equity fund as well as co-portfolio manager of a number of institutional mandates.
Before this he spent 14 years at Legal & General Investment Management as a UK equities fund manager specialising in the small cap sector.
Commenting on Evans' appointment, David Aird, Investec AM's UK Client Group managing director said: 'Matt has an excellent track record in UK small and mid-cap equities.
'Positioning his expertise within the Investec Quality Team alongside our UK Alpha and UK Equity Income Funds provides our clients with a compelling choice of UK equity-centric funds that further deepens our capability in this area.
'We are well positioned to meet the requirements of our adviser and wealth management clients, responding to increasing demand for unconstrained highly active UK equity funds, which aim to offer investors more consistency in today’s uncertain markets.'
A spokesperson for Columbia Threadneedle confirmed that AA-rated James Thorne will take over from Evans as manager of the Ethical UK Equity fund.
The spokesperson said: 'Existing co-manager James Thorne will become lead manager of our UK small and mid cap funds, supported by members of Columbia Threadneedle’s market leading UK Equities team.'
