James Brearley & Sons hires for southern push

James Brearley & Sons has hired Bob Trew from AJ Bell Securities to spearhead a push to expand the company’s operations in the south of England.

Trew has joined the Blackpool-based wealth manager as head of intermediary development, with a focus on growing the business in London and the south of England. He was previously head of business development at AJ Bell Securities, where he helped grow the firm’s assets under administration to £12.1 billion.

Prior to that he was operations director at Lawshare, before its acquisition by AJ Bell in 2007. He also had spells at Kleinwort Benson, and Dresdner RCM in its operations team.

There are no immediate plans to open an office in London, but Trew will look to build a team as the regional business grows.

Managing director Nigel Corrie (pictured) said: ‘He will be supporting the business with its growth plans primarily on the custody and online side in the south of England. Bob brings a lot of experience and knowledge with him.’

James Brearley & Sons has five regional offices in Kendal, Burnley, Preston and Southport alongside its Blackpool HQ with 25 client-facing staff and 75 employees in total.
