JOHCM poaches four-strong former Fidelity US equity team

JOHCM poaches four-strong former Fidelity US equity team

J O Hambro Capital Management has hired three portfolio managers and a trader who previously worked as a team at Fidelity Investments-owned company Pyramis Global Advisors as they ready the launch of US small and mid cap equity strategies later this quarter.

The newly created JOHCM US team is comprised of Thorsten Becker, Arun Daniel and Vincent Rivers and trader Eric Yi, who ran a US small/mid cap core equity strategy for Pyramis, and will be based in Boston, Massachusetts. They left Pyramis at together at the end of next year. The team will also launch a global small and mid cap equity strategy 'in due course'.

Capacity for the US small and mid cap equity strategy has been set at $5 billion and it will be available to non-US investors via an Oeic, while US-based investors will be able to access it through a mutual fund and commingled fund, and will also be offered as a segregated strategy.

The team will use a core investment approach, managing a fundamental research-driven best ideas portfolio.

JOHCM was forced to shut its US Opportunities fund in 2011, after it struggled to attract flows in spite of strong performance.

"The appointment of these experienced and proven US equities investors enhances our presence in the United States, a market where we are making considerable inroads, and enables us to widen our investment fund range," said JOHCM chief executive Gavin Rochussen (pictured), who has been vocal about his desire to grow the business in the region
