Julius Baer hires five for Scotland hub in fresh Barclays raid

Julius Baer International has raided Barclays once again for its new Edinburgh office.

The Swiss private bank has hired the following five wealth managers from its rival: James Osborne, Ross Clephane, Alan Colquhoun, Paul Turnbull, and Stuart Paterson.

The five will be reunited with ex-Barclays colleague Gordon Scott, who heads the Edinburgh office, which will be located at One Lochrin Square.

Between them, the five bring considerable Barclays experience with them.

Turnbull and Paterson spent nine and 16 years respectively at Barclays as chartered financial planner and director.

Meanwhile Clephane spent 10 years as a private banker Barclays and Colquhoun six years looking after private clients, including entrepreneurs, executives and professionals.

‘The Scottish market has seen a marked increase in the number of business owners, entrepreneurs and individuals seeking wealth and investment management solutions,’ said David Durlacher (pictured below), chief executive officer at Julius Baer International.

‘Establishing a presence in Scotland provides our clients with unrivalled local knowledge combined with a global perspective and a unique pure-play offering. This move represents the next step in our long-term commitment to serving and growing our presence in the UK and Irish markets.’

Calum Brewster, head of UK regional offices, added: ‘We are delighted to establish a permanent presence in the Scottish market and to welcome this strong and experienced team to Julius Baer International. This new location and our investment in talent will enable greater numbers of clients to benefit from our pure-play approach.’

The latest hires come after Julius Baer hired nine Barclays wealth managers for a concerted wealth push across the UK.
