Matthew Parden appointed head of Butterfield Bank

Matthew Parden, who left his former position as chief executive of private bank Duncan Lawrie this year amid a corporate reshuffle, has been appointed managing director of Butterfield Bank.

Parden (pictured) replaces Raymond Sykes who is retiring after more than four years in the post.

In a wider boardroom reshuffle, Butterfield has also appointed former HSBC chief risk officer Trevor Gander and former PwC partner Douglas Paterson to its board as non-executive directors, replacing retiring members John Wright and Nigel Buchanan. Gander will also be appointed chair.

Butterfield senior executive vice president Conor O’Dea said: ‘We are pleased to welcome Matthew as the new managing director of Butterfield in the UK

‘He has a well-earned reputation as a leader and innovator in the private wealth management field and he is the ideal person to lead our London office through the next phase of its development and growth.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank Raymond for his many contributions to Butterfield over the last 12 years, both as a private banker and, for the last four years, as managing director.’

Parden spent 17 years at Duncan Lawrie, working as group financial controller and group financial director before becoming chief executive in 2010.
