Meet Wealth Manager's latest recruit: Eleanor Mahmoud

Meet Wealth Manager's latest recruit: Eleanor Mahmoud

Introducing the newest member of our audience development team, Eleanor Mahmoud. The keen-eyed among you may have noticed Eleanor has been writing for a while, however it is most definitely a rite of passage for all our on the road team to complete this Q&A!

What drew you to financial services and Citywire?

I studied economics at university and enjoyed learning about the societal and behavioural aspect of it, as well as how global world events and financial services are interlinked.

Having previously worked in financial services and financial communications, I had always known of Citywire in some capacity. I was really pleased when an opportunity here came up, it is exciting to be part of such a well-known name in the industry.

The masseuse and lunchtime fitness sessions Citywire offer may have had something to do with it too…

Why did you want to join the audience development team?

I was originally attracted to the people and travel elements of audience development, having always worked in client-facing roles in the past. Now I’m in the team, I love how much of a varied job this is.

Not only do we travel the country meeting the wealth management community, we also write for the magazine, produce videos and attend Citywire events across the UK.

It is great fun getting to know the people behind this part of the financial world, as well as getting to know our own country a little better.

Where have you come from?

I joined Citywire last summer and recently moved over to the Wealth Manager team, having worked on Citywire’s institutional channel for the last nine months or so.

I graduated from the University of Reading with a first in economics. After university I worked on the client side of financial planning before heading to a PR agency working on financial communications. That is when I crossed to the other side of the media world to join Citywire.

Oh, and to mix things up a little, I also spent a year in a very different world working with animals as a student veterinary nurse!

I was brought up in St Albans and have recently flown the family nest to live in London.

What are you most looking forward to?

I am looking forward to being part of a market-leading trade publication. Being a weekly print magazine and having an increasingly digital presence, the world of Wealth Manager is fast paced, so we are always working on something interesting.

The spring and autumn seasons bring a busy run of UK events, so I am looking forward to working at those throughout the year.

What do you do with your spare time?

You may have noticed a fleeting reference to my love of animals from one of my earlier jobs. I have previously volunteered with animals and now that my day job is spent in the wealth management world,
I would like to carry on volunteering where I can.

I also take our family dog Bertie (an excitable young cocker spaniel) to agility classes, although I would not count on seeing us at Crufts any time soon!

Animals aside, I am a keen foodie and am trying to improve my cooking skills at home, alongside exploring London’s eating and drinking scene.

If you would like to catch up with Eleanor, either for a Pub Club feature or an off the record meeting get in touch on emahmoud@citywire.co.uk
