Meet Wealth Manager's latest recruit: Katie Gilfillan

Introducing the latest addition to the audience development team.

What drew you to financial services and Citywire?

Studying economics at university and having some experience at a building society, I had a small taster of the financial world. I have always seen myself involved in it somehow, as solving complex problems within a fast paced environment captivates me.

When the opportunity arose to work within a well-established financial publisher I jumped at the chance.

Finding a company which offers a lot of opportunities, with a welcoming and friendly culture and a place to develop my professional skills was my aspiration. Citywire perfectly fit this bill.

Why did you want to join the audience development team?

I have enjoyed client facing roles throughout my working life, benefitting from being exposed to every type of customer known to man through the exciting world of minimum wage jobs.

From my summer months as an ice cream lady to my winter months as a brand rep for Jägermeister, I thoroughly enjoyed chatting to people, getting to know them and building long lasting relationships. This job epitomises everything I am passionate about.

Being an avid traveller, the travel aspects of the job really appealed to me, discovering places on my home turf.

Where have you come from?

Originally from Nottingham, I have lived in the North East of England the majority of my life. However I barely have an accent so am lovingly known to my friends as the ‘posh Geordie’.

I studied Economics at the University of Sheffield working at Carpetright throughout with zero experience, so apologies if you bought an irregular striped carpet for your stairs (no refunds).

After university I did the typical ‘gap yah’ risking my life on motorbikes in Asia, working hard/hardly working in Oz and being an adrenaline junkie in New Zealand.

What are you most looking forward to?

I’m really looking forward to being a part of such a dynamic team, learning more about the financial world and networking across the wealth management society.

I am also eagerly anticipating our Citywire Scotland Retreat next month, as it’ll give me an insight into what goes into a successful event. It will be fascinating to see the end result of all the hard work that goes into it from different areas in the business.

Writing content is a daunting but exciting adventure too. Having people read and be engaged by it will be a new challenge.

What do you do in your spare time?

Having recently moved here from the North East I’ve only visited London a handful of times in my life so I’m enjoying spending as much time as possible exploring what London has to offer. Learning how to trapeze is high on my list.

I’m spending a lot of my time navigating through the maze that is the tube system and reconnecting with friends. However when things finally calm down I would love to sink my teeth into some charity work. I was previously involved with ‘Contact the Elderly’ which is such a fantastic cause trying to combat loneliness in the elderly.

I also love facetiming my adorable pooch whenever his schedule allows.
