Newton’s Russon replaces Hall on Franklin Templeton UK equity team

Newton’s Russon replaces Hall on Franklin Templeton UK equity team

Ben Russon is joining Franklin Templeton’s UK equity team in April, to co-manage the firm’s UK Select Growth and Managers Focus funds.

Russon, who joins the Leeds-based team headed by Colin Morton, will work alongside Mark Hall on the UK Select Growth fund, with a view to taking over as lead manager after a period of transition.

He will also work with Morton, Paul Spencer, Richard Bullas and Hall as co-manager on the UK Managers Focus fund.

Hall, who has over 20 years’ experience, will remain a manager on the fund but will eventually move into a role with more of a focus on providing analysis and research for the group.

Russon joins from Newton where he managed the UK Opportunities fund and a segregated UK equity mandate for BNY Mellon.

Morton explained since the acquisition of Rensburg Fund Management, Franklin Templeton has made some key changes, including the management on the Franklin UK Smaller Companies Fund where Paul Spencer and Richard Bullas became co-managers.

Morton said: ‘We see Ben as a very strong addition to the team. In terms of style, he has typically run a concentrated portfolio of stocks and we would expect this to be reflected in the Fund.

‘Ben favours a long term approach and pays particular attention to minimising down-side risk. We are also delighted to continue to have Mark Hall’s experience within the team and he will continue to be a key contributor in a more research-oriented role.’
