Old Mutual recruits ex-Schroders governance head

Old Mutual recruits ex-Schroders governance head

Paul Emerton, former head of governance at Schroders, has joined Old Mutual Global Investors as head of UK stewardship and governance.

Emerton will work with Old Mutual’s UK equities team, reporting to fellow Schroders alumnus Richard Buxton, and will focus on improving corporate performance and standards of governance.

‘As fundamental investors, we know that corporate governance matters. Ensuring that companies in which we invest have good boards, genuinely independent non-executive directors and appropriate incentive structures makes a real difference to outcomes for our clients,’ commented Buxton (pictured).

‘Actively engaging with companies and other investors to improve corporate performance is an essential part of our role as active managers and responsible stewards of our clients’ assets. This appointment clearly demonstrates the importance we place on our stewardship responsibilities and active engagement to enhance returns for our clients.’
