Osborne nets £80k from Aberdeen and BlackRock speeches

George Osborne may have disappeared from the political scene, but he is building a lucrative career on the speaking circuit.

According to the UK parliament's register of MP's interests, the former chancellor earned £51,328 for a speech delivered at Aberdeen Asset Management's annual investment conference on 22 November.

The register states the speech lasted for an hour, with Osborne's travel expenses also covered.

Osborne also netted £34,109 for a speech at BlackRock's New York office in 28 November. This too lasted an hour with travel and his accommodation costs were covered.

The earnings add to other bumper payments Osborne has received for speaking assignments since he stepped down from his government post following the Brexit vote.

These include payments of £81,174  and £60,578 from JP Morgan in New York for two speeches lasting seven hours in total and £85,396 from Citi for two speeches lasting a combined three hours.
