US golf star Phil Mickelson and legendary activist Carl Icahn are being investigated by the FBI over insider trading, according to reports.
Las Vegas gambler William Walters is also said to be under investigation.
It is understood the FBI and Security and Exchanges Commission are trying to determine whether Mickelson and Walters may have traded Illegally on private information provided by Icahn.
The probe is allegedly focusing on one trade involving cleaning products company Clorox and another in relation to food and beverage firm Dean Foods. Both trades are believed to have taken place around 2011.
‘I have done absolutely nothing wrong’, Mickelson said in a statement released over the weekend.
‘I have cooperated with the government in this investigation and will continue to do so. I wish I could fully discuss this matter, but under the current circumstances it's just not possible.’
His lawyer, Glenn Cohen, told reporters his client is ‘not the target of any investigation. Period.’
Meanwhile Icahn acknowledged he knows Walters but claimed he had never met Mickelson.
Ichan told Reuters: ‘I am very proud of my 50-year unblemished record and have never given out insider information.’
