Rob Kyprianou joins Pimco as non-exec in board revamp

Pimco Europe has appointed Rob Kyprianou as a non-executive director as part of a board refresh.

Kyprianou (pictured), who has over 30 years’ experience in asset management, previously served as chief executive of AXA Framlington Investment Managers, head of fixed income at ABN Amro, and investment head at Salomon Brothers Asset Management.

Kyprianou, a regular contributor to Wealth Manager, has also sat on the boards of Gartmore, Aviva Investors and Eurobank Cyprus in non-executive roles, as well as being chairman of the Polar Capital Global Financials Trust.

Also newly appointed as a Pimco Europe non-executive director is Lisa Arnold, a former investment banking analyst at NatWest, UBS and Commerzbank. She is also a non-executive director of Futura Medical, and has non-executive roles on the boards of the Tate & Lyle and Whitbread pension funds.

The appointments follow a broader reshuffle of Pimco Europe’s executive management team, coming after the retirement of CEO Joseph McDevitt at the end of April. McDevitt joined Pimco in 1998 and opened its first European office in London. He has been succeeded by Bill Benz, who has been at the firm since 1986.

At the group level, Pimco was rocked at the start of the year by the sudden resignation of chief executive Mohammed El-Erian. Managing directors Charles Lahr and Marc Seidner, who served as interim head of equities, also left Pimco this year.
