Robeco launces fintech focused equity fund

Robeco has launched a ‘fintech’-focused global equity fund that invests in listed companies that benefit from innovations in the financial sector.

The Robeco Global FinTech Equities fund is a concentrated portfolio of companies chosen from a proprietary universe that categorises fintech companies in three ways.

  • Today’s winners, which are companies that have competitive advantages thanks to fintech today;
  • Fintech enablers that include companies that facilitate the trend towards digitisation; and
  • Challengers, companies that could be the winners in the future.

The fund will be managed by Patrick Lemmens (pictured left), who also manages Robeco New World Financial Equities, and Jeroen van Oerle (pictured right), who are both part of Robeco’s Trends Investing team.

Commenting on the fund launch, Lemmens, who is lead portfolio manager for the fund, said: ‘We have invested in the digital finance trend for over six years now with Robeco New World Equities as this is one of the three themes of the fund, but to launch a fund that solely invests in fintech is very exciting.

‘I strongly believe that digital finance will open the way to 2 billion people who currently don’t manage their financial affairs, and that online payment methods will become mainstream, while cash becomes the exception.

‘With the launch of this fund we will enable investors to gain exposure to and profit from the trend of increasing digitisation.’
