Sarasin’s Whitehead: don’t chase high yields

Mark Whitehead, equity income manager at Sarasin & Partners, argues that investors shouldn’t be tempted by nominally high yields.

His £414 million Sarasin Global Higher Dividend fund has returned 20.9% over the past three years, lagging its benchmark MSCI World index’s 31% through the same period.

Whitehead attributes this to the market’s recent preference for lower-quality recovery stocks, but believes that quality will return to the fore this year.
