Second 30 under 30 star quits Thurleigh

Second 30 under 30 star quits Thurleigh

Portfolio manager and business development director Chris Richards has left Thurleigh Investment Managers, the second departure from its investment team since the announcement of the firm’s merger with Ingenious Asset Management.

Richards (pictured), who featured in Wealth Manager’s annual Top 30 under 30 in 2013, resigned in order to attend business school in Barcelona.

‘We were sad to see Chris leave us,’ commented Thurleigh chairman David Rosier. ‘He goes with our best wishes.’

At Thurleigh, Richards sat on the investment committee and was also spearheading the firm’s push into the IFA market. Before joining Thurleigh in 2011, Richards spent two years as a business analyst at UBS Investment Bank after completing a degree in history and politics at the University of Nottingham.

His exit follows that of Caspar Helmore in April, who left to focus on his CFA exams. Helmore was a nominee for the 2014 intake to the Top 30 under 30 list.

That leaves three members of Thurleigh’s investment team – Edward Allen, Fergus Paton, and 2013 Top 30 under 30 alumnus James von Simson – working alongside chief investment officer Charles MacKinnon.

That team has now merged into Ingenious, with the combined group managing £1.8 billion in discretionary private client assets and platform-based model portfolios.

‘We’re looking forward to working with them, because they have a very good team and a very good investment process,’ Rosier told Wealth Manager.
