SJP compliance officer quits to set up advice firm

A compliance officer from St James’s Place (SJP) is leaving to set up his own advice firm.

Bristol-based Alex Alton, who has been at SJP since August 2014 and has eight years’ experience in the financial services industry, registered a company called Alton Wealth Management on 25th July, according to Companies House filings.

Writing on LinkedIn, Alton described the move as ‘one of the biggest decisions of my life’ and said the company, which will be based in Weston-Super-Mare, will offer ‘full financial advice’.

He added: ‘I will be spending the coming months building my professional network and laying the foundations for a successful launch.’

Before joining SJP, Alton was a personal banking advisor and a relationship manager at Santander in Weston-Super-Mare.

SJP upped its number of advisers by 3.7% in the first half of this year to a total of 3,540.

But the firm lost its senior partnership development manager Mark Tootill to Standard Life's restricted advice firm 1825 last month.
