Standard Life denies it's in talks to buy London HQ

Standard Life denies it's in talks to buy London HQ

Standard Life has dismissed suggestions it is in talks to buy a London base.

The Telegraph said the Edinburgh-base firm is looking to buy 100 Cheapside, which could become its new headquarters if Scotland votes for independence in September.

While Standard Life stressed it could not comment on individual deals, it said it was not looking to buy a London base.

'We can’t comment on individual deals as we manage a large portfolio of properties on behalf of our clients, but we can confirm that we are not looking for a London-based HQ,' a spokesperson for Standard Life said.

In February Standard Life warned it could relocate parts of its business in the event of a 'Yes' vote at the referendum.

At the time it said it had begun preparatory work for moving operations to the South on uncertainties over 'material issues', including what currency and independent Scotland would use.

'As one of the largest companies headquartered and based in Scotland, it is appropriate that we have carefully thought through the potential consequences if Scotland were to become an independent nation,’ chairman Gerry Grimstone (pictured) said.
