‘My greatest achievement is to be the vanguard of the new model,’ says Neil Shillito of Norwich-based SG Wealth Management. Shillito has worked in financial services for more than 26 years and ensured that when he and Stephen Girling set up SG in 2001, it was RDR ready. The firm has recently launched a stockbroking service. Shillito is a keen golfer, a trustee of the Norwich Community Hospital and contributes regularly to the national press.

Andrew Whiteley

Provisio

Andrew Whiteley launched Provisio in 2003 and was one of the first advisers in the UK to offer exchange traded fund-based model portfolios to retail investors. He is an expert in the field of passive investments and comments regularly in the national press and online.

Whiteley transitioned his business to bring it in line with the RDR in 2008. Looking beyond the RDR, he wants to increase the client base of his investment outsourcing business, Assetfirst, and increase Provisio’s assets under management to £150 million.

Based in Letchworth Garden City, one of Whiteley’s greatest achievements is setting up charity Tom’s Trust in honour of his son, Tom, who died of cancer, aged nine.

Jeremy Davis

Jeremy Davis’ diverse career once led him to Columbia and Rwanda to do crop research. In 2002, he moved into financial services to set up the financial advice arm of a solicitors’ practice. Cambridge-based Davis specialises in portfolio management and cites his greatest achievement as being able to grow profits and turnover through hard recessionary times. He is in the process of launching a discretionary portfolio management service.

Ex-Royal Air Force flight controller Carl Lamb founded Almary Green in 2001. The Norwich-based firm has grown year on year and now has a turnover of £2 million. Lamb was one of the first financial advisers in the region to be accredited by the Law Society’s Resolution initiative, enabling him to provide advice and services in collaborative law cases involving pension assets. He says he is inspired by wounded troops returning from Afghanistan and Almary Green does charitable work for Help the Heroes.

Rebecca Taylor has been busy and successful in equal measure over the past few years. She has won the New Model Adviser® of the Year Award for the East of England three times, and this year has been elected president of the IFP. Peterborough-based Taylor has been a board member of the IFP for eight years and aims to continue her quest to heighten public awareness of financial services and, in particular, the IFP’s accredited status, which she helped to develop.

Bury St Edmunds-based Tim Page is co-director of family-run Page Russell, which he joined in 1999 having previously worked as a cattle rancher in Australia. ‘In 1999 my brother called me and said he and my father were buying a financial advisory firm,’ says Page. ‘I’d just been railed by a bull and was feeling a bit sorry for myself, so I came back to the UK.’ Since opting for a career in financial advice, Page has helped Page Russell win the IFP’s David Norton award and become one of the first IFAs in the country to become an IFP accredited firm. A self-professed financial planning practice geek, his insatiable appetite for reading and learning business practice has ensured the firm goes from strength to strength.
