On the road in Dublin: Day two
Markets
by Charlie Hinchliffe on Dec 06, 2012 at 14:06
The winter cold has certainly taken its hold on Dublin and we are looking forward to another day of meetings with the city's main players. An interesting trend emerging is the presence of the big British wealth management firms in Ireland, with the likes of Davy and Goodbody holding a large share of the market, but with the entrance of Brewin Dolphin and Investec of late displaying the opportunities around for wealth management companies.
After a short introduction to the wealth management community in Ireland we have focused in on meeting the likes of Quilter and Smith and Williamson as well as more local operations like Bank of Ireland Private Bank.
The fact find definitely informed us of the attitudes of investors over the past five years, with spectacular losses made on property and some interesting discoveries of the asset classes that were being promoted before 2008. Yet despite all that has gone on over the last five years, the appetite for property investing seems to remain, albeit without the level of gearing that added up and up.
A few drinks were shared with members of the community on Tuesday evening at Cafe en Seine on Dawsone Street, but the team were in bed at a sensible hour before another hectic day in the Irish capital.
