In Asia, shares erased declines on Tuesday after China’s central bank added funds to the financial system for the first time in two weeks, helping alleviate a cash squeeze.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.1% to 143 as of 11:03 a.m. in Tokyo. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index (HSI) gained 0.6% and China’s Shanghai Composite rose 0.5%. Japan’s Topix index was little changed and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index dropped 0.2%. New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index gained 0.1% and South Korea’s Kospi index advanced 0.2%. Singapore’s Straits Times Index slid less than 0.1% and Taiwan’s Taiex Index added 0.3%.
