Overnight Markets: US stocks close flat ahead of jobs data

The stock of Intercept Pharmaceuticals Inc (ICPT.O) skyrocketed 281.1% after the company said an analysis by an independent safety committee showed its liver disease drug met the main goal of a mid-stage trial.

In Asia, shares declined on Friday in late morning trade after data showed China’s trade surplus narrowed and investors await reports US payrolls.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index slipped 0.2% to 139 as of 11:20 a.m. in Tokyo. Japan’s Topix (TPX) index fell 0.5%. South Korea’s Kospi index declined 0.5%.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index lost 0.2%, while New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index rose 0.5%. Singapore’s Straits Times Index was up 0.2% and Taiwan’s Taiex index advanced 0.3%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index added 0.5%, while China’s Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.2%.
