Overnight Markets: US stocks fall on government shutdown fears

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.3% to 139 as of 11:18 a.m. in Tokyo. Japan’s Topix index advanced 0.8%. The Bank of Japan’s quarterly Tankan index for big manufacturers rose to 12 in September, the highest since 2007, from 4 in June.
South Korea’s Kospi index rose 0.6% and Singapore’s Straits Time Index gained 0.9%. Taiwan’s Taiex index added 0.5%. New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index lost less than 0.1% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index advanced 0.3%. Financial markets in Hong Kong and China are closed today.
