Overnight Markets: US stocks gain on Chinese economy

In Asia, shares gained on Wednesday in morning trade as the President Barack Obama pulled the US from the brink of a military strike against Syria.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index advanced 0.2% to 137 as of 10:50 a.m. in Tokyo. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.2%, while China’s Shanghai Composite Index advanced 0.4%.
Japan’s Topix index and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index both advanced 0.4%. New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index and South Korea’s Kospi index each fell 0.1%. Taiwan’s Taiex index lost 0.2% and Singapore’s Straits Times Index slipped 0.1%.
