Overnight Markets: US stocks rebound as shutdown seen short-lived

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index increased 0.1% to 139 at 10:45 a.m. in Tokyo. Japan’s Topix (TPX) index fell 0.3% after rising 0.5%. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe unveiled a 5 trillion yen ($51 billion) stimulus package to cushion the first sales-tax increase since 1997.
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index (AS51) rose 0.2% and New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index added 0.4%. South Korea’s Kospi index climbed 0.3%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.7% following a public holiday yesterday. Markets are closed in China for holidays until 8 October. Singapore’s Straits Times Index fell 0.1%. Taiwan’s Taiex index added 0.4%.
