Overnight Markets: US stocks rise after court ruling on broadcasters

Valero Energy (VLO.N) was down 8.3%, while Marathon Petroleum (MPC.N) fell 6.3%.
In Asia, shares gained on Thursday in morning trade, led by technology shares, amid optimism the US economy is emerging from a worse-than-estimated contraction last quarter.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index gained 0.5% to 145 as of 10:56 a.m. in Tokyo. Japan’s Topix index and South Korea’s Kospi index both gained 0.4%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index added 0.7%, while New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index advanced 0.3%.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.5%, while the Shanghai Composite Index advanced 0.2%. Taiwan’s Taiex index climbed 0.5% and Singapore’s Straits Times Index gained 0.3%.
