Overnight Markets: Wall Street declines on Fed bets after data

In Asia, shares declined on Friday in late morning trade as improving US economic data boosted bets the Fed will reduce stimulus as early as next week.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index dropped 0.4% to 138 as of 10:42 a.m. in Hong Kong. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index gained 0.4%. South Korea’s Kospi index fell 0.6% and New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index lost 0.2%.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index retreated 0.3%, while China’s Shanghai Composite lost 0.4%. Singapore’s Straits Times Index fell 0.6% and Taiwan’s Taiex Index added 0.1%.
