Overnight Markets: Wall Street down as Cyprus worry intensifies

On the positive side, Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) added 3.5% as Oppenheimer & Co. upgraded the shares.

In Asia, shares declined on Friday in late morning trade as looming financial meltdown in Cyprus underscored concern that Europe’s debt crisis is worsening.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index lost 0.3% to 135 as of 10:38 a.m. in Hong Kong. Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average retreated 1.5%, falling from its highest level since September 2008.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 0.2% and China’s Shanghai Composite lost 0.1%. Singagpore’s Straits Times Index slid 0.1%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index added 0.3%. Taiwan’s Taiex and South Korea’s Kospi Index both climbed 0.1%.
