Overnight Markets: Wall Street ends lower amid continuing shutdown

In Asia, shares declined on Friday in mid session as concern increased that the US political impasse could lead to the government defaulting on its debt.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index lost 0.3% as of 12:12 p.m. in Tokyo. Japan’s Topix Index (TPX) slid for a sixth day, poised for the longest losing streak since July 2012. Financial markets in mainland China are closed for a holiday.
South Korea’s Kospi index lost 0.2% as it reopened after a holiday. New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index dropped 0.3% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index retreated 0.4%.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell 0.6%. Singapore’s Straits Times Index and Taiwan’s Taiex index were little changed.
