Overnight Markets: Wall Street gains on budget deal hopes

In Asia, shares gained on Tuesday in late morning trade as US policymakers said they are optimistic they will forge a deal to reopen the government and avoid a breach of the debt limit this week.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index gained 0.5% to 142 as of 11:07 a.m. in Tokyo. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index advanced 0.9%. Japan’s Topix (TPX) index rose 0.3%, reopening after a holiday.
South Korea’s Kospi index gained 0.8% and New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index added 0.1%. Hong Kong’s Hang Index climbed 0.6% as it also reopened after a holiday, while China’s Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.2%.Markets in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines are shut for holidays today.
