Overnight Markets: Wall Street up as Syria concerns lift energy shares

In Asia, shares gained on Thursday in late morning trade as energy shares increased after concern military action against Syria will disrupt global oil supplies fuelled gains in crude prices this week.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.5% to 130 as of 11:43 a.m. in Tokyo. Japan’s Topix index advanced 0.1%. South Korea’s Kospi Index gained 1.4% as a report showed the nation’s current account surplus narrowed in July. New Zealand’s NZX 50 Index fell 0.1% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Index lost 0.3%.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 0.4% and China’s Shanghai Composite Index was little changed. Taiwan’s Taiex Index increased 1%. Singapore’s Straits Times Index added 0.7%.
