Platform opens wine fund opportunity to wealth managers

Wealth managers will be able to create wine portfolios under their own brand through a new product.

The Wine Management Platform (WMP) has been created by UK-based e-commerce platform www.wineowners.com and offers a wide range of metrics incorporating pricing on 160,000 wines.

Through WMP client portfolios can be created across multiple cellars and jurisdictions and include a facility allowing high net worths to trade wines.

The challenges associated with self-directed trading by orchestrating settlement between counterparties, inspections and all logistics are handled by Wine Owners

Wealth managers also have access to administrative functions which highlight account activity.

Wine Owners said it had launched the product on evidence of high net worth investors wanting to keep a 'noticable' element of their wealth in wine assets as both collectors and drinkers.

The firm also highlights how wine as an asset class has outperformed both gold and the S&P 500 over the last seven years.

'Robbie Vann-Adibé, board director at Wine Owners, said: 'No other solution addresses all aspects of fine wine management, inventory tracking and the transactional side of self-directing a wine portfolio.

'Wine Owners is the first platform to cover all these areas in an integrated, comprehensive manner'.

Wine Owners was founded in 2010 by wine enthusiast Nick Martin. The core platform and its white label business manages a combined £300 million in fine wines for more than 10,000 individuals.
