Pru chief takes home £8.7m in 2013

Prudential chief Tidjane Thiam was only the insurer’s third-highest paid employee, with 10 of its senior team awarded a total pot of £72 million.

The FT reported that the chief's total pay package of £8.7 million was overtaken by the £11.7 million package awarded to Mike Wells, who runs Prudential’s US business, while an unnamed individual who sits on the board was paid £17.5 million.

Prudential disclosed its remuneration report on the same day as Old Mutual, which revealed that Julian Roberts, chief executive, and outgoing finance director Philip Broadley were paid a combined total of £7.83 million.

Pru's remuneration report showed that two of the Pru’s five best paid employees were not directors. The second, unnamed, individual received a package of £7.5 million.

The FT pointed out that while Wells was the highest paid executive, his annual base salary is a third lower than Thiam's.
