Qatar Investment fund names Wilson as chair after sudden death of von Simson

The Qatar Investment fund has appointed Nicholas Wilson as chairman following the sudden death of David von Simson.

Wilson has been on the board of the Qatar Investment fund since its creation in 2007, more recently as senior investment director. Overall he has 35 years' experience in hedge funds, derivatives and global asset management.

Under von Simson's watch the Qatar Investment fund has returned 38.5% over the last three years.

Commenting on his appointment, Wilson told the market: 'It is with great regret that we report the sudden death of David von Simson, who served the company skillfully as Chairman since launch in 2007.  Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.'

Wilson was happy investors had voted to keep the trust in operation at an annual general meeting held on 14 November following von Simson's death. In total 98.4% of investors voted against discontinuation. 'We are pleased with the support that shareholders have shown in voting overwhelmingly against discontinuation,' Wilson said. 

'As a result the fund will continue to provide investors with exposure to the powerful growth prospects offered by Qatar, and we will strive to deliver investment performance ahead of the Qatar stockmarket.'
