SC Davies eyes charity assets under ex-Killik man

SC Davies is hoping to develop new business channels, particularly charity, under new hire James Butler, who joins from Killik & Co.
Butler joins as a client portfolio manager and will contribute to the firm’s attempt to win new assets and business.
He will look to develop relationships with intermediaries, law firms and accountants on behalf of the boutique, alongside spearheading a move into the charity sector.
He said: ‘The firm’s investment foundation, built on capital preservation as well as our ‘contrarian’ stance, will compliment charity portfolio mandates.’
Butler said leaving Killik had been a difficult decision, but he had been attracted to the very high ratios of staff to clients, its service proposition and the opportunity to build on growth opportunities for the boutique.
Butler formerly trained as a stockbroker at Killik & Co and prior to this had stints at Ingenious Media Investments and Octopus Investments.
The charity sector represents a new area for the firm, which was launched by founder Simon Davies (pictured) in 2004 after he left Berry Asset Management, alongside chief investment officer Paul Denley and chairman Hugh Scotney.
The firm launched an execution-only service for its clients in 2011 through its in-house platform, which it had introduced the previous year.
