The Wells Fargo stagecoach rolls into London

Schoolchildren in East London got a bit of shock last week when the Wells Fargo stagecoach rolled into town driven by former Marlboro man Alan Cartwright.

The visit to the Bishop Challoner School was to celebrate the work of Wells Fargo volunteers who have been working with year seven children as part of its reading and number partner scheme. The volunteers have been providing one-to-one mentoring to children with learning difficulties on a weekly basis.

The volunteers also presented a $10,000 grant to the school to launch a long-term mentoring scheme which will see former students from Bishop Challoner from St. Mary’s University go back to the school to mentor children.

Bishop Challoner was the first federated school in London’s Tower Hamlets, one of the most deprived  areas in the UK with the third highest rate of children living in poverty at 53% and the third highest unemployment rate in the capital.
