Wesley McCoy returns to SLI after Africa and Odey stints

Wesley McCoy has returned to Standard Life Investments (SLI), the firm he left in 2008 to work for a charity in Africa.
McCoy, who recently served as a volunteer in the Olympic and Paralympic games, joins SLI as an investment director in the global equities team, responsible for global stock research. McCoy will be given a fund to run but not initially.
Previously at Standard Life, McCoy developed a strong reputation as manager of the Standard Life UK Equity Unconstrained fund , which at one point was capped due to high interest, although in his final year he endured a tricky spell.
In Africa, McCoy spent a year and eight months working for the non-profit MicroLoan Foundation which provides small loans and business training to women in sub-Saharan Africa. McCoy helped set up functions in Zambia while co-ordinating activities in Malawi.
McCoy followed his charity work with a nine month stint at Standard Bank Africa, as a lead member of the investment banking function responsible for sub-Saharan Africa, working with new businesses in Malawi.
On returning to the UK, McCoy worked as an assistant portfolio manager to Crispin Odey for Odey Asset Management’s global multi asset hedge fund until July this year.
SLI’s head of equities David Cumming said: ‘We are pleased that Wesley is returning to Standard Life Investments. He will be a great addition to our already strongly performing global equities team.’
While managing the Standard Life UK Equity Unconstrained fund McCoy was AA-rated by Citywire.
