‘We believe most investors prefer to retain control of their asset allocation and invest in either Asia ex-Japan or Japan with the pan-Asian mandate only coming into favour when both regions are performing strongly,’ said Charles Cade, an analyst at Numis.
Paul Locke, an analyst at Westhouse Securities, has a different take.
‘Current optimism on Japan does not mean that the Asia including Japan sector has had its day,’ he argued. ‘The planned move may actually translate into higher demand for those existing vehicles left in that space, for those investors who would prefer asset allocation still to take place at the managerial level.’
