Boutique taps former Hugh Hendry co-manager for EM fund

Addition of Thomas Roderick 'boosts suite of specialist strategies'

A portfolio manager who worked with Hugh Hendry for half a decade has joined Trium Capital.

Thomas Roderick will manage an emerging markets-focused discretionary macro portfolio at the London-based alternative investment specialist.

Roderick managed a global macro portfolio at Eclectica Asset Management, the company Hendry founded. He focused on global FX, fixed income and equity markets.

Before joining Eclectica he held numerous posts with Brevan Howard.

Roderick said: 'I am excited to be working in an environment allowing managers to harness their potential and look forward to helping Trium deliver on its long-term vision.

'The current and continued higher volatility environment should lead to higher potential returns for global macro managers.

'Although EM focused, the strategy I deploy is not restricted to being long EM assets and I don’t anticipate a high correlation to other macro funds, including other EM macro funds.

'The ruptures in EM this year has led to large distortions which turn into large opportunities if you are able to exploit them.'

Shenan Dhanani, co-head of Trium Capital, said: 'At Trium we have cultivated a truly collaborative environment for portfolio managers, allowing managers to manage strategies that have demonstrated consistent alpha generation.

'The addition of Thomas boosts our suite of specialist strategies. Thomas has a deep understanding of emerging markets and his track record of generating alpha in this space is exemplary, delivering annualised returns in excess of 8% with low volatility.'
